Is it possible that donations could include produce so that those like myself experiencing food insecurity could avail themselves of items that are nutritionally complete? And could people be encouraged to donate items that although are not food are certainly considered essential such as coffee, toilet paper, toiletries, and toothpaste?
Also, people should be discouraged from making donations of items that they themselves wouldn't consume, i.e., processed foods high in salt, sugar, saturated fat, and processed meat content.

My opinion is the SNAP program (food stamps) is a subsidy to companies such as Frito Lay and Coca-Cola. People should not be allowed to buy sugary soft drinks, empty carbs, or processed meats with food stamps nor should these items be stocked in the little pantries. After Thanksgiving and Halloween, the candy and cans of sugar-laden, pumpkin pie filling, and cranberry sauce that bulged from the little pantry made me want to cry. Do wealthy people really feel good about themselves adding to the obesity epidemic and metabolic syndrome situation that plague the food insecure? Sadly, I need the little pantry and cannot consider myself a caretaker. (In response to our calling Dan a “caretaker.)
